The World Economic Forum; a summit for anxious people to talk about an anxious world. So while we’re at it let’s indulge in a little bit more doom and gloom. Some of the messages coming from Davos pertain to procurement, but make no mistake, no one is talking about what a good job everyone is doing – more that businesses need to do more in tackling risk in the supply chain.

Risk was a big theme last year, across industries and regions – everywhere you looked there were reasons for international businesses to focus on supply chain risk. And yet there’s still a lot of weakness in supply chains and a lot of ground to make up - just look at the reports of the rise of supply chain terrorism.

CEOs have been discussing ways to enhance risk understanding and management and supply chain is a vital part of that. That could not have been made clearer last year, but still, here we are with reports being released from the WEF saying that there’s an urgent need for businesses to address supply chain risk.
